WTF Moiré

WTF Market is a one-stop entertainment market held in big cities in Indonesia as a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their creative and innovative products. Moiré was the theme for a WTF Market that was held in Tunjungan Plaza, Surabaya in March 2016. We chose Moiré based on the name of the event itself: We The Future.

Project: WTF Market Moirè Surabaya
Design Director: Andre Aditya Manggala
Illustrator: Andre Manggala & Dionarta Santoso
Photographer: Peter Budiman
Year: 2016

Remember that effect when you take a photograph of a TV screen with a digital camera? Those distorted little grids are moiré patterns, and that’s where our inspiration came from. We imagined what it’s like to live behind the screen, inside an electronic devices, and through illustrations and animations, we told a story of it.

We did a full branding on this project and we used yellow, black, and white as the main colors because yellow represent electricity — without which, the future will not exist, while black and white are the most-used colors on gadgets, they are also the colors of the moiré effect itself. Aside from wallpapers and advertisements, we also created everything from the art installations (such as the layered photo booth that was inspired by digital screens) to background music! Entering WTF Market: Moiré was like stepping inside your TV screen and experience the life behind it.
